Sarah Russ has had a life-long interest in music. As a child, she studied piano for eight years before pursuing her
post-secondary education. After completing a degree in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia in 1996, she took private composition lessons and began composing music.
In 1999, Sarah began working at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in Burnaby, BC, where she continues to work. She has worked as an accompanist for ballet classes, piano teacher for group classes, and given private lessons. In 2005, she began working in music administration and since 2015, has worked in dance administration.
All the while, Sarah continued her piano studies and in 2010, received the Piano Teacher’s Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, Ontario.
Russ has written many pieces of music for the Shadbolt Centre’s dance recitals and describes herself as a relentless nighttime composer, working on her own compositions well into the wee hours.
